The Corp Marshall Federal Road Safety Corp Dauda Ali Biu , says one hundred and seventy three thousand five hundred and seventy three (173, 573) vehicles have installed speed limiters across the country in seven years.

The Corp Marshal stated this at a stakeholders meeting on the development and implementation of policy and imported vehicles in Abuja .

Over the years, the Federal Road Safety Corps has put in a lot of effort to ensure a decline in road traffic crashes .

But despite their efforts, accidents still occur on a regular basis as most citizens usually go above speed limit .

Recent reports by Federal Road Safety Corps put the crashes on Nigerian roads in recent times at two thousand seven hundred and thirty three .

Out of these crashes Eight thousand three hundred and thirty nine people where injured and one thousand four hundred and forty one victims were killed from January to March 2023.

It is why the corps is hosting this meeting to sensitize stakeholders, as part of continuous efforts to eradicate accidents, especially speed related crashes on highways.

The Corp Marshall, Dauda Ali Biu, believes there is an urgent need for citizens to take road traffic rules and regulations seriously in order to prevent accidents that will cost their lives on the highways.

He also disclosed that the road traffic policy on pre-fitted speed limiting devices on both locally and imported vehicles will be enforced before the end of this year .

Other stakeholders encouraged citizens to do whatever they can to avoid road traffic crashes to save lives.

The FRSC is committed to complying With the United Nations Decade of Action of 2021 to 2030 on safe system approach to road safety as adopted in the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy 2021 to 2030 .
