The Council For The Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria has finalized modalities to kick start the collection of practitioners’ operating fee across ports in the country.
The council said the system would be automated to ensure transparency and also enable seamless cargo evacuation.
TVC News Correspondent, Ifunanya Eze reports that the practitioners operating fee has been a subject of controversy, but it seems issues have been resolved between the council and freight forwarding practitioners as they get set to commence collection.
Practitioners are mandated to pay N1000 and N2000 respectively, for a twenty and a forty feet container. The collection is expected to add up to N5 billion naira to government revenue.
The regulatory body said part of the revenue generated would be used to impact freight forwarding practice in the country.
The conviction is that membership of the council will enable practitioners address contending issues in the port.
