Former President Donald Trump has been ordered to pay the New York Times nearly $400,000 (£313,900) in legal fees after the lawsuit brought against them was dismissed.
Trump has filed a against the newspaper in September 2021, accusing three journalists of engaging in an insidious plot to obtain his tax records as part of an investigative report that was published in 2018.
A judge dismissed it last year, saying its claims “fail as a matter of constitutional law”.
The series of articles on Mr Trump’s financial affairs won a Pulitzer Price.
Judge Robert Reed, a Democrat on the New York Supreme Court, ruled on Friday that Mr. Trump must reimburse the New York Times for costs related to his unsuccessful lawsuit.
The judge stated that he reached at the $392,638 sum after taking into account a number of factors, including the “ability and reputation” of the newspaper’s attorneys as well as “the complexity of the issues presented” in the action.
The paper’s investigation revealed how the former US President who has boasted for years about building his business fortune had in fact received the equivalent of $413 million adjusted in inflation.
