Flooding: Delta govt issues final warning, set to demolish structures on waterways

Delta State Government has given last notification to owners of buildings on waterway to vacate as demolition of such structures will be carried out to check the perennial flooding of some areas.

The Director, Special Duties to Delta State Government, Frank Omare who embarked on sensitisation exercise in Warri South and Uvwie Councils, says there is no sacred cow.

Three weeks ago Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ordered demolition of any building erected on the waterway while inspecting the drainage system to tackle flooding in Warri and Effurun.

Ahead of the planned demolition exercise which is imminent, Director of Special duties is out on streets to give final warning to owners of buildings on drainages to vacate.

At Ugboroke in Warri south, this building is right on waterway, leaving the water to take narrow path. There are other structures obstructing the water course, which are marked for demolition.

In Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, This wood market is situated on a canal, it will be demolished to make way for water.

The sensitisation ahead of the demolition ended at Uti street and Alegbo

For the Delta State Government, this is just one of the several moves to ensure environmental restoration in the state.

The message to defaulters is clear as the government is determined to take necessary actions to make the state better.
