A fire broke out at one of the female hostels of Gombe State University late Thursday evening, causing significant property damage and prompting an emergency evacuation of students.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around dusk, sending students scrambling for safety.
While no lives were lost and no major injuries have been reported, several students lost personal belongings to the blaze.

In a remarkable display of solidarity, male and female students joined efforts to battle the flames before emergency responders arrived on the scene.
