The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development says support from all Nigerians will help further in mitigating the plight of citizens affected by floods.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry said while receiving relief packs from a non governmental organisation in Abuja

A non governmental organisation, The care pack Family, had donated about one thousand pieces of relief packs to victims of floods across the country

The packs contain food and non food materials such as mosquito Nets, rain coats, cereals, sanitisers, flashlights, Noodles, Garri, bottled water, oil and some other essentials

They were presented to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, who received them on behalf of the Minister

The Permanent Secretary also immediately handed the packs over to the the DG of the National Emergency Management Agency with the promise that they would be immediately disbursed to all zones across the country.

The Permanent Secretary says, while this is not the first donation received from sympathetic Nigerians, more of such gestures will be appreciated

The organisation making the donation says citizens need to understand that government on its own may not be bale to meet all the needs of the victims

The government appreciated all those who have donated and supported them in bringing succour to all those affected

The Director General of NEMA also says distribution of the released 12,000 metric tonnes of grains is still ongoing with support from the Navy and Airforce.

Millions of Nigerians in 26 States of the Federation have been affected by the impact of the devastating flooding which has been precipitated by a number of factors including Climate Change.

The Flooding has led to fears that there will be mass food shortages across the country following the destruction of thousands of Acres of Farmlands by the floods.
