The Federal Government has trained 200 youths in Jigawa State in poultry production, solar installation, and interior decoration as part of efforts to tackle unemployment and promote self-reliance.
The programme, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the World Bank under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, aims to equip young people with practical, income-generating skills.

Out of the beneficiaries, 100 youths received hands-on training in painting and interior decoration, as well as solar installation and maintenance.
Another 100 were trained in poultry production to meet the growing national demand for poultry products.

Officials say the trainees underwent intensive practical sessions designed to prepare them for immediate entry into the labour market or to start their own businesses.
The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria is battling rising youth unemployment and increasing demand for affordable energy and food security.

Experts note that expanding poultry production locally will reduce pressure on imports, while solar installation skills will support the country’s drive for renewable energy solutions.
The programme is also expected to reduce over-dependence on white-collar jobs and government employment, encouraging entrepreneurship and small-scale enterprise development.
Stakeholders believe that if properly monitored and sustained, such technical training programmes could play a critical role in strengthening the national economy and empowering the next generation.
For the beneficiaries in Jigawa State, this training represents not just new skills, but new opportunities.
TVC News previously reported that the Federal Government has commenced the training of about one million Nigerian youths under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), disclosed this during an inspection visit to some TVET partner centres in Abuja, including AFS Vocational Hub in Garki and Golden Finger Farms and Ranches Limited along the Kubwa-Zuba Expressway.
