Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said the selection process to concession the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the Nigeria Iron Ore Mining Company is on.

The goal, he added, is to break the jinx and achieve the dream of a vibrant steel sector.

Professor Osinbajo made this known while declaring open the sixth edition of the Nigerian Mining Week in Abuja.

After the setback brought about by the outbreak of COVID-19, the annual mining week is back.

The yearly event is designed to play a key role in showcasing the nation’s mineral assets and its dynamic mining ecosystem, to potential local and international investors.

The Minister of Mines and Steel is proud to say that government’s revenue has risen from N2 billion in 2015 to over N7 billion.

He said government is not relenting in making the country’s mining sector more attractive

President Muhammadu Buhari is represented by the Vice President. He appreciates the contributions of the annual event in advancing the cause of the mining sector.

He says the priority goal of the present administration remains the repositioning of the mining sector within the framework of its economic diversification policy.

Yemi Osinbajo is happy with the improvement in geological information gathering, data storage and dissemination.

More particular is the return of geological data generated in Nigeria during the pre-independence era by Britain.

The highpoint of the opening ceremony is the launch of the EMC plus, a new digital mining cadastre that will allow for the deployment of a digital application at the Mining Cadastre Office and its offices in the six geo-political zones of the country, for the granting and administration of mining titles.
