The Federal Government has taken disciplinary action against several personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), resulting in the dismissal, compulsory retirement, and demotion of a number of officers found guilty of various offences.
According to official reports, eight officers have been dismissed, five were compulsorily retired, while eight others had their ranks reduced due to different forms of misconduct.
In addition, the government approved the dismissal of two junior officers from the Service after they were found guilty of criminal offences, including kidnapping, stealing, and illegal possession of firearms.
The decision followed the recommendations of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), whose Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee met on 11th July 2025 to consider disciplinary cases within the Service.
In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the NIS, Akinsola Akinlabi, the Committee reviewed 31 disciplinary cases involving both officers and personnel.
Akinlabi, who is an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, stated:
“Consequently, the Board has approved series of disciplinary actions in line with its avowed commitment to upholding highest standards of discipline and integrity within the Services it superintends and the Service wishes to notify the public as follows:
Eight officers were dismissed from the Service for serious misconduct and violation of Service Regulations;
In addition, five officers were compulsorily retired for offences othering on misconduct, while Eight officers were demoted by one rank.”

He went on to note that five other officers received written warnings for acts of misconduct. The Board also reviewed two appeals from dismissed officers, both of which were rejected due to lack of merit.
“One officer is to be reinstated following a successful appeal while the Board exonerated two officers against charges preferred against them,” Akinlabi added.
Providing further details, the spokesperson revealed that the Service had also sanctioned two junior personnel:
“In the same vein, the public is further invited to note that the Service has dismissed two junior personnel; Aliyu Usman (AII) and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi (CIA) for criminal conspiracy bothering on stealing and illegal possession of firearms and proven allegation of kidnapping following completion of internal disciplinary proceedings on 14th April and 4th September 2025.”
Akinlabi reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to integrity and professionalism, noting that all disciplinary measures were endorsed by the CDCFIB under the supervision of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap.
