The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has been elected Vice President of Airports Council International (ACI) Africa and confirmed as a permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board.

Her election was ratified at the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly held in Lusaka, Zambia.

The appointment marks a historic milestone for Nigeria and Africa’s aviation sector, elevating Mrs Kuku from her previous role as Regional Advisor for Africa.

ACI Africa represents 56 member states across the continent, while the ACI World Governing Board oversees more than 2,100 airports globally with 814 members from 169 countries.

In her new position, Mrs Kuku will champion initiatives to promote safer, passenger-focused airports and improve connectivity across Africa.

“Being elected as Vice President of ACI Africa is an incredible honour, one that I do not take lightly,” Mrs Kuku said. “I am committed to collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that our airports not only meet international standards for safety and efficiency but also serve as critical drivers of economic growth and connectivity for our nations.”

Under her leadership, Nigerian airports have undergone notable transformation in infrastructure, safety and service quality, winning multiple industry awards.

She brings a wealth of experience in aviation and finance to tackle pressing challenges, including sustainable aviation practices, infrastructure gaps and compliance with global safety standards.

Industry observers say her elevation underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in the global aviation space and could help attract more investment and partnerships to the sector.
