The European Union has committed €1.5 million to support victims of the recent Benue State conflict.

This comes as the Nigerian Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction intensifies its efforts to address the widespread displacement and suffering caused by the recent attacks.

The Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State was subjected to a horrific attack in June this year, which claimed several lives and displaced many residents, including many children.

The crisis has left thousands in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, including food, shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has emphasised that the EU’s support aligns perfectly with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to institutionalize a comprehensive social protection system

The ongoing partnership between the EU and the Nigerian government, particularly through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, is crucial in addressing the urgent needs of those affected by conflicts and disasters across the country, ensuring that vulnerable populations like those in Yelwata receive timely and effective assistance.
