It’s the second year since the much-discussed EndSars protests, which nearly halted commercial activity in Lagos.

The EndSars protests had initially begun on October 4, when videos went viral on social media of youths protesting after a young man in Ughelli, Delta State was shot and killed by SARS officers.

While commemorating the day with a memorial procession, police fired tear gas at the Lekki Tollgate earlier today to disperse protesters.

On this day two years ago, the entire nation was thrown into disarray following alleged shootings at the Lekki Tollgate by the Nigerian Army in order to stop youths protesting police brutality.

Police personnel were stationed at strategic points to ensure peace as the people began to gather and move in procession.

After a while, the youths gathered together to voice their anger by calling on everyone to remember those who allegedly died two years ago.

The procession was supposed to hold between the hours of 8am to 11am.

But as time wined down, the procession was interrupted as police began to throw teargas and hot water pepper spray on some protesters and journalists.

Speaking during the second anniversary of the ENDSARS protests, Ayoyinka Oni, who spoke on the theme ‘ENDSARS justice now: Justice delayed is justice denied’, called for full compensation of victims of protest, saying there should not be any back door payments.

The lekki toll gate has served as a rallying point for END SARS protesters who gather yearly to commemorate the day.
