Former Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has filed a petition against Honourable Justice R.M. Aikawa, alleging bias and injustice in a case regarding his fundamental human rights.
Mr. El-Rufai requested the Chief Judge to reassign the case due to a lack of confidence in Justice Aikawa’s impartiality.
He claims procedural discrepancies occurred, including proceeding with a hearing without proper notice and denying the chance to respond to late filings.
The case, which began on June 26, 2024, had hearings on July 8, 17, and 18, 2024
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Assembly on Thursday requested the court to dismiss former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s fundamental rights suit challenging a report that indicted him in an alleged N423 billion fraud.
During the hearing, all respondents, including the Assembly’s counsel, Femi Falana, SAN, and the state Attorney General, argued that the court lacks jurisdiction and that the suit lacks merit.
The court reserved judgment and will communicate the date to the parties involved.
