ECOWAS Chair and President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, is in Abuja for talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Maada Bio arrived at the State House around nine o’clock Friday night, where he was received by senior government officials.

His visit comes shortly after the Economic Community of West African States -ECOWAS dismissed the US allegations of a so-called “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, describing the claims as false, baseless, and capable of undermining regional peace and unity.

While details of tonight’s meeting are yet to be made public, discussions are expected to centre on regional security, political stability, and economic cooperation across West Africa.

President Bio, who currently chairs the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, had earlier confirmed on his verified X handle that he was departing Freetown for Abuja to serve as the commencement speaker at the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Baze University and to attend a high-level investment forum.

President Tinubu, who handed over as ECOWAS Chairman earlier this year, is hosting the Sierra Leonean leader as part of ongoing consultations to strengthen the regional bloc and address emerging challenges facing member states.

Details of the closed-door meeting are expected to emerge later, but tonight’s visit underscores ECOWAS’ united front amid growing international scrutiny of regional affairs.
