Natives of communities in Delta State, where the Trans-Forcados and OML 40 pipelines are located, are urging President Bola Tinubu to renew the surveillance contract of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, an indigenous company.

The company has successfully prevented crude oil theft in the area for years.

Members of the communities who staged a peaceful protest, emphasized the impact of the surveillance contractor on their lives and environment.

This demonstration by these women of Gbokoda and other riverine communities in Delta state is to plead with Mr President to extend the contract of the indigenous Surveillance company which has been beneficial to them over the years in employment, empowerment and economic growth.

To the natives, not renewing the contract will bring untold hardship to them and job loss.

The surveillance contract which reduced crude oil theft has brought peace among different ethnic groups as these engaged indigenes confirmed it.

Mr Shola Wilkey is an advocate on Peace building and conflicts resolution. He believes removing the surveillance contract has dire consequences.

The people are hoping that their plead will get the needed quarters and a positive result will be received.
