A roof at Delhi Airport collapsed on Friday due to severe rain, killing one person and injuring eight others.
All flights from the terminal have been suspended till further notice, according to airport officials.
An official for the airport said while the cause of the collapse is being investigated, the primary cause appears to be the continued heavy rainfall over the last few hours.
Officials said four vehicles were damaged, and eight people received minor injuries in the incident.
India’s aviation regulator has advised airlines to accommodate passengers on alternate flights or offer them refunds.
The accident has impacted the travel plans of thousands, as most domestic flights take off from Terminal 1.
Some airlines have transferred their flight operations to the airport’s remaining two terminals.
Authorities at Delhi International Airport Limited announced the formation of a technical committee to study the accident’s cause.
Federal Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has “announced a compensation of 2m rupees ($24,000; £19,000) to the family of the deceased and 300,000 rupees for the injured.”
He also informed reporters that the issue was under control and that an inspection was underway to prevent any further incidents.
He noted that airports with new structures across the country would also be assessed.
