The Defence Headquarters has called for broader collaboration between security agencies, state governments, traditional institutions, and the general public in the ongoing fight against banditry and insurgency in Nigeria’s North-West region.
This call was made during a courtesy visit by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Ismail Gusau, to the Kebbi State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin, in Birnin Kebbi.
During the visit, Brigadier General Gusau highlighted the importance of engaging local communities and building strong Army-public relations to enhance operational effectiveness in security operations.
He said the military is working closely with media organizations to improve public communication and trust in the fight against insecurity.
“We’re in Kebbi to assess the impact of our collaborations with media houses and strengthen public engagement in the battle against banditry, particularly in the North-West,” Gusau stated.
He commended Governor Nasir Idris for his consistent support to the military, which he said has contributed significantly to the gains recorded in the fight against bandits in Kebbi State.

“The Kebbi State Government will remain relentless in its support for security agencies, knowing that the safety of our people is paramount,” the Commissioner said.
He proposed that the Defence Headquarters organize a town hall meeting involving traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, and youth groups to foster grassroots-level intelligence gathering and cooperation.
“Our Ministry is ready to collaborate fully with the Defence Information team to ensure the success of such a meeting, which will help bridge the gap between the military and the people,” Birnin added.
