Image result for Smuggling in NigeriaThe Comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba, Francis Olatade Adetoye has vowed to stamp out smuggling and other illicit trans-border businesses.  Correspondent, Owolabi Adenusi reports that Nigeria’s porous borders make it easy for smuggling to thrive, but the Comptroller of Customs in charge of Adamawa and Taraba said he and his team are out to change that.

At this news conference, Francis Adetoye describes smuggling as the worst economic crime against the state, but says the Nigerian Customs has recorded successes in fighting it.

Adetoye doesn’t take all the credit, but credits the cordial relationship between his team and other security agencies, as well as the Taraba State government and individuals for the successes.

Adetoye said one of the most remarkable feats of his team is the recent seizure of 55 elephant tusks. He also said smuggling across the Nigeria/Cameroon border has been reduced to a minimum.
