With five days remaining until the 14 February race, anticipation is building for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, as elite runners, sports officials and residents prepare for one of Africa’s most prominent road-racing events.

Athletes are finalising race-day strategies while spectators across the city ready themselves to line the streets for a contest defined by endurance, prestige and significant financial reward.

This year’s edition features an attractive prize purse designed to draw leading international and local competitors.

The winner will receive $50,000, with additional rewards available for podium finishers and strong performances across various categories, ensuring intense competition from start to finish.

High-profile personalities expected at the event include the Presidential Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko; and former Super Eagles midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana.

They will be joined by sports administrators, former athletes and corporate partners.

Beyond the race itself, the marathon has grown into a major gathering point for sports stakeholders within and outside Nigeria, reinforcing its status as a key fixture on the continent’s athletics calendar.

As the countdown continues, attention turns to which runner will best manage the heat, pace and pressure to claim victory in Lagos.
