A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has tendered an apology to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for calling for a visa ban on him over an alleged missing 89 trillion naira stamp duty.

while reading the letter during a press conference in Abuja, they said that the allegations against him were false and untrue of his person and office.

Nigeria has had great men of vision, ideas and exceptional qualities who have presided over the apex bank.

From Aliyu Mai Bornu, the first indigenous CBN governor, to Clement Isong to Adamu Ciroma to Ola Vincent and to AbdulKadir Ahmed, the longest serving CBN governor to the industrious Joseph Sanusi, to data and statistics savvy Charles Soludo and banking sector reformer, Lamido Sanusi .

All of them registered their footprints in the sands of Nigerian economy and banking sector.

The present regime of Mr Godwin Emefiele, has had it’s fair share of controversy, but many of his supporters believe in his management of economy policy.

Of recent, allegations of discrepancies in stamp duty proceeds, saw a lot of protests from different civil groups.

But this coalition of civil society groups is ready to back down on calls for his removal, based on superior argument made available to them concerning activities and interventions of the CBN under the leadership of Godwin Emefiele.

It says that having weighed what was made available to the CSOs against the CBN governor, it has realised it acted on wrong information.

It has also asked that the Department Of State Service allow the CBN governor to perform his constitutional duties as well as respect court orders concerning the issue.
