The high court of the Federal Capital Territory says it has the jurisdiction to entertain the suit filed by 8 aggrieved members of the Labour Party accusing the party’s suspended National chairman Julius Abure of forgery.

Ruling on the preliminary objection filed by Mr Abure challenging his suspension, the court held it has the jurisdiction to hear the matter, and the claimants were right to have brought the matter by originating summons.

Justice Muazu Hamza adjourned till 17th May for hearing in the substantive suit.

The claimants had accused Mr Abure of forging court documents including receipts and the seal of the FCT High Court which they had allegedly used in the substitutions of Labour Party candidates in the 2023 general election.

The court had on April 5, 2023 granted an interim order restraining the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) Julius Abure, the National Secretary, Farouk Ibrahim and two others from parading themselves as National Officers of the party.

Senate aspirants visit NWC

The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, has admitted that there were no adequate consultations before the zoning list and in line with the principle of democracy it will review necessary aspects of the list.

This was stated during the visit of some Senate presidential aspirants to the National Working Committee at the party’s headquarters.

The controversy rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another dimension even as aggrieved Senate President aspirants have informed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) that they will disobey the directive on the senate zoning list.

At the meeting of the aggrieved Senators with the National Working Committee, the aspirants submitted a letter jointly signed and asked the party to correct its mistake.

Each of the aspirants is demanding that the Senate President slot should be zoned to their respective regions.

The APC definitely has a handful of issues to deal with, especially with regards to the composition of the 10th Assembly.

National chairman Abdullahi Adamu says the warring groups should hold fire until they hear the final decision from the party.

The Senators who made the declaration include former Zamfara state governor Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor-Kalu, Senator Sani Musa among others.
