The proposed move to include Corruption studies in the nations’ Education Curricular has been described as a bad move that should be discouraged by all well meaning Nigerians.
Discussants on Journalists Hangout Special on Sunday made this known while reacting to the proposed move by the House of Representatives to include Anti Corruption Studies in the Education Curricular.
Mayor Akinpelu who led the discussion said the move is a bad move that should not go ahead.
He added that the Job of the House of Representatives is not to do something like that.
He said the Anti Corruption agencies should be strengthened more to ensure that those who are found wanting in Corruption cases are made to face the Consequences of their actions.
He said making an example of people who are Corrupt will ensure that Corruption comes down drastically as against the move to include Corruption Studies in School Curricular.
He disclosed that studying Corruption in School does not mean somebody will not be Corrupt.
He urged members of the House of Representatives to concentrate on the issues that matter by making the Anti Corruption crusade stronger.
He described the move as a waste of time, urging not only to be fighting Corruption but to be seen to be fighting Corruption.
Going Further, he asked whether the current laws we have are actually dissuade people from involvement in Corrupt practices.
According to him, as long as the people who ae Corrupt get away lightly, Corruption will never come down in the Country.
He said nobody sees any reason not to be Corrupt in Nigeria which makes it difficult for anybody to stop Corrupt practices.
For his part, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, said the issue can not remain the way it is indefinitely.
He described Corruption as a major impediment to National Development with resources meant for thousands and even Millions in some cases cornered by a few people.
He added that Corruption is a major problem in this part of the World positing that he sees merits in the move by members of the House to include Corruption Studies in the School Curricular.
He said teaching Children that Corruption is a bad behaviour will also help in inculcating moral rectitude in people very young will help.
He described the current practice of doing Plea Bargain with Corrupt people Should be stopped.
He advocated a more stringent set of punishments for Corrupt people to not include Plea Bargaining, take everything they have stolen and also send them to jail.
