Comoros President Assoumani pledges support for victims of Cyclone Chido

Following Cyclone Chido’s devastating impact on the Comoros archipelago, notably Mayotte, President Azali Assoumani has expressed his solidarity with the afflicted inhabitants.

In response to Cyclone Chido’s effects in the Comoros, President Assoumani stated, “The most important takeaway is that no lives were lost.”

According to him, Material losses can occur at any moment, regardless of whether there is a storm.

“Our priority now is to assist individuals who have experienced damage on the islands”.

In an official statement, he offered condolences to those who have lost family members in Mayotte and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured.

He recognised the strength of the people as they dealt with the extensive losses caused by the cyclone, expressing faith that the Mahorans will face this challenge with determination.

The president announced that the Union of Comoros will support Mayotte’s rehabilitation and humanitarian operations.

He advocated for a collaborative approach to meeting the immediate needs of people affected and encouraged local organizations to participate in relief operations.

During the crisis, he also sought international support.

As damage assessments are ongoing, the Union of Comoros is prepared to provide all essential assistance to Mayotte during this difficult period.
