The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has lamented Nigeria’s rising poverty rate.
Quoting the World Bank’s 2018 figures, the former Anambra state governor who spoke at the Chatham house in London, said the country has overtaken India as the poverty capital of the world.
The Labour Party’s standard bearer also spoke on a number of issues, including Nigeria’s economy and the country’s debt profile, which he said is worsened by large scale oil theft.

Mr. Obi also claims a small group of politicians are holding Nigeria captive for selfish interest.
He added that the country is faced with an alarming insecurity level that has led to the loss of many lives and property and a significant decline in food and economic output.
