President Muhammadu Buhari has officially declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019 for the second term in office. The president made this known on Monday during the NEC meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.

This announcement was made by the special adviser to the President on New media and engagement, Bashir Ahmad in a tweet on his official handle @BashirAhmaad

“President Muhammadu Buhari has just officially announced his intention to seek re-election in 2019. Details soon…” his tweet read.

Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai also confirmed this in a tweet on his verified handle @elrufai.

Recall that different interest groups and individuals, including Kano state government  have threatened legal action against the President should he fails to seek re-election. The latest was the Kano state governor who said the state will sue the President should he failed to seek reelection.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress had on March 1 passed a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari, denying that it was not the same as endorsing the President for a second term.

By April 1, while preparations had started among politicians for the elections, all eyes had remained on Buhari who had, until now, remained silent on whether or not he will seek re-election.

His loyalists, APC governors, as well as the chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress all expressed their support for him to go for a second term.

Details later.
