The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has called off its strike at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) following a high-level intervention by the Federal Government.

The industrial action was suspended after an emergency meeting facilitated by the Minister of Power.

Present at the meeting were officials from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, TCN management, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), NUEE, and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC).

Following extensive deliberations, all parties reached a consensus on key resolutions that led to the strike’s suspension.

As part of the agreement, the unions accepted the Minister’s plea to revisit the findings of a standing committee, with a timeline set for October 6–7, 2025 for the review. Implementation of the committee’s recommendations is expected to commence later that month.

In the meantime, TCN and NISO have been tasked with assessing the financial implications of the report and developing a comprehensive implementation plan to be submitted to the Minister of Power and union representatives.

Additionally, both the unions and management are expected to reconvene for further dialogue to resolve any lingering issues.

To support the process, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has been instructed to fast-track its tariff review to ensure a smooth rollout of the agreement.
