A bill to strengthen efficiency of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps and another to establish a national commission against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons have scaled second reading.
National Assembly Correspondent, Tijesu Adeoye, reports that an Adhoc committee set up by the Senate was given some time to review Nigeria’s Security Structure and report back its findings to the senate chambers.
But the Upper legislative chamber is not narrowing its options to the provisions of this report, rather it sought other curative measures to the growing challenge.
A bill to establish a defence Academy for officers of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps scaled second reading on the floor of the red chambers.

The bill seeks to ensure officers of the NSCDC acquire the highest standard of professionalism while carrying out their responsibilities.
In a similar development, a bill to establish a National commission against the proliferation small arms also passed through.
After debating on the bills , the Senate resolved that this will strengthen the country’s defense system against iinsecurity.
