Maradun is the hometown of Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle and this attack is the worst in recent times in the area

Efforts to speak to authorities in the state proves abortive after putting several calls across.

Banditry and Other crimes have been a major issue in Zamfara State for well over a decade now and has posed a major challenge to the authorities in the State and the nations’ security establishment.

Several persons have been killed in the activities of criminal gangs known as bandits who were originally thought to be after the State’s vast mineral resources especially Gold leading to the death of children in what was known as Lead Poisoning in the State.

Their activities have since morphed into outright criminality, killings, kidnapping for ransom, arson and Terrorism.

The State Government has put in place several measures to put an end to the scourge including shutting down of Telecommunications Services, Amnesty for Repentant Bandits, Military Operations in conjunction with the Federal Government and even removal of Traditional rulers.

All these measures seem not to have had the desired effect with an upsurge coming almost immediately after such measures are implemented following a lull in violence.

This new upsurge is just another in the series that comes after the lull following the alleged decision by well known and feared bandits leader Bello Turji to accept amnesty and renounce violence, he has since return to violence following alleged airstrikes on his enclave by the Nigerian Airforce.
