Bandits in Zamfara have rejected cash as ransom and Insist Victims will not be released until redesigned currency notes begins Circulation in December.
The Terrorists had a few days ago abducted four Persons in Kolo village in Gusau local government area of Zamfara State
Those abducted Include two Orphans, a Man and a Woman
The bandits had earlier demanded ten million naira as ransom, but after series of negotiation with relations of the Victims, it was reduced to five million Naira
A Source told TVC News that while residents of the village were tying to source the said amount through communal effort, the terrorists sent a message on Tuesday night that, they would not release the kidnapped victims until after the change of Currency Notes in December this year
The Victims according to our source will remain in the Bandits den till December when the new naira notes will be in circulation
This is Coming a few hours after president Muhammadu Buhari unveiled new currency notes shortly before the federal Executive Council, in Abuja.
Zamfara State Government had earlier this week issued a press statement that Security situation in the state has improved
Though, the Government admitted that Communities in Talata Mafara, Anka, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maru, Maradun and parts of Gusau Local Government councils are still experiencing attacks by Gunmen.
The development may not be unconnected with the decision by the Federal Government to redesign the Naira making it difficult for people who have held Millions of Naira notes in their possession for a long time like bandits, terrorists and Politicians to make use of it.
The newly redesigned Naira Notes were unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari before the start of the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
There have been divergent opinions on the decision of the Federal Government of Nigeria to redesign the Naira Notes but this seems to another pointer for the government on the appropriateness of the move.
