After about two weeks in captivity, no fewer than five of the over 60 people abducted from Adunu in Kafin-Koro district of Paikoro and Beni in Munya local government areas of Niger state were executed by their abductors for failing to meet the gunmen’s deadline for paying the N100 million ransom demanded.

Mr. Moses Tanko aka Arada System, a retired police officer, and another serving police officer whose name was not immediately ascertain at the time of filing this report, were among those killed. The two victims were among those kidnapped two weeks ago from Adunu village.

According to a source close to Adunu District Head Mallam Kabiru Bawa, three women were set free by the Bandits after raping them to come back to the community to tell the news of the five people’s execution and threatened that more victims would be killed if their demand of N100 million was not met.

It would be recalled that the gunmen stormed Adunu and Beni communities in broad daylight and sacked them, killing a medical practitioner and kidnapping over 60 people, including women and children.

According to a source close to the communities, those who could afford between 10,000 and 20,000 naira notes, whether old or new, were set free by the gunmen during the raid.

The state Police Command has yet to issue a statement on the latest development, and all efforts to obtain confirmation from the Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umar, have been futile.
