The proliferation of Illicit small arms and light weapons remains a huge security challenge facing the country.

Now Officials of the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) say they will not fold their arms and watch the country get flooded with illicit arms.

They promise to clamp down on offenders and institute litigation against facilitators.

Cordinator of the center Major Gen. Abba Dikko stated this while on a courtesy visit to the Kaduna state Government

The proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons has become a major source of vulnerability in our society.

It stands out as a key driver of violent conflict, crime and terrorism within and beyond the Nigerian borders.

The failure of the global community to control its flow has continued to undermine national security and significantly hinder development in African countries as seen in some regions in northern Nigeria.

National Cordinator of the Nigerian center for control of small arms and light weapons is promising to clamp down on offenders.

The center also applied and has been given a plot of land for the development of the North west zonal office in Kaduna.

Mr Dikko insists that the Ecowas treaty of free trade won’t be accepted as a excuse for the movement of ilicit arms into the county

Kaduna state government officials pledge to give the commission their full support.

Nigeria is the 14th among the 15 member countries of Ecowas to set up an agency to control illicit arms flow.

The center came into being in 2021 and a bill is currently at National Assembly seeking to make it a full fledged institution backed by law.
