Alleged defilement: Femi Olaleye remanded in Ikoyi Correctional Centre

The Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care, Ikoyi, Dr. Femi Olaleye has spent his first night at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ikoyi

The Medical Doctor, Olaleye was remanded after a Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court, sitting in Ikeja, gave the order despite pleading not guilty to the child defilement charges.

Dr Olaleye will remain at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, pending perfection of his bail conditions.

The Lagos state government arraigned Femi Olaleye on Wednesday, November 29th on a two counts charge of allegedly defiling a 16 year old girl.

The medical doctor pleaded not guilty to the alleged charges of the defilement of the child and sexual assault by penetration.

After the arraignments, lead defense Council Babtunde Ogala, a senior advocate of Nigeria applied for his bill in Liberal terms on the grounds that the alleged crimes are bailable and that the defendant is ready to stand trial. he also said the defendant has a Cancer Care Foundation with many looking up to him, but the state government’s director of public prosecutions , Babajide Martin argued the bail application arguing that the defendant is a Flight Risk who could also interfere with the trial as the alleged victim is his wife’s niece.

In his ruling, Justice Rahman Oshodi granted bail in the sum of 15 million naira to the defendant who is also to produce two sureties in like sum who also be gain fully employed, Lagos residents, property owners and income taxpayers within the last three years.

The defendant is also to deposit his traveling and British passports with the chief Registrar of the court.
