Agric, Water Resources Ministries Partner To Combat Food Scarcity

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, is devising a strategy to combat food shortages and inflation while also scaling up food production across the country. 

This initiative follows a closed-door meeting between both ministries, held in the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting had in attendance both Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Ministers of Water Resources and Sanitation, along with relevant stakeholders, underscoring the significance of this gathering.

After the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security briefed the media, he says the collaboration between the two ministries will tackle the nation’s food security challenges.

He assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is fully committed to ensuring sufficient food supply and addressing the broader issues facing the country.

On his part, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation disclosed that his ministry has abundant water resources for irrigation, arable land, and the technical expertise required for large-scale farming.

He emphasized the critical need for seedlings and other agricultural inputs to maximize the cultivation of the ministry’s 500,000 irrigable lands across twelve River Basins.

Representing the private sector, Mr. Magaji of African Farmer expressed his commitment to driving significant improvements in the agricultural sector before the end of the year.

The collaboration between these Ministries marks a crucial step forward, especially With promises of increased food and improved irrigation infrastructure, Nigerians are hopeful that these initiatives will translate into tangible results.
