Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for renewed diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the United States of America in response to the recent security concerns raised by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a statement issued on the matter, Governor Adeleke expressed support for diplomatic dialogue, emphasizing the need to strengthen the longstanding and mutually beneficial Nigeria–U.S. partnership.

He appealed to the U.S. Presidency to assist Nigeria in fully implementing its newly developed National Security Strategy, which he described as comprehensive and capable of addressing banditry and terrorism across the country.

Governor Adeleke, who commiserated with families of victims in northern Nigeria, said the concerns raised by the U.S. should serve as a wake-up call for Nigeria to intensify the implementation of its new security measures and counterterrorism efforts through global cooperation.

“Nigeria has suffered unfortunate killings in parts of the North, claiming many innocent lives. We believe a high-level engagement between both presidents will help the U.S. government better understand the ongoing operations, successes, and challenges Nigeria faces in its fight against terrorism,”.

He further urged international partners to expand their support for Nigeria’s security agencies and political leadership, stressing that diplomatic engagement, not military intervention remains the best path forward.

Governor Adeleke also lauded the Federal Government for its diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and address the concerns of Western allies, particularly the United States.

“This is the time to unite as a nation to support our leadership in addressing internal and external threats for the protection of our citizens. We must back the President to enforce the spirit and letters of the constitution. Nigeria needs peace, not war, to deepen democracy and safeguard our people,” he added.
