Image result for Supreme Court judges in NigeriaThe acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, has sworn in 250 members of the 2019 election petition tribunal panel.

Inaugurating the panel the acting CJN urged them to discharge their duties diligently, saying that the judiciary is in trying times and members of the 3rd arm of the government must stand up to protect it.

The swearing in ceremony which took place inside the Chambers of the Supreme Court Headquarters in Abuja, had one justice of the Supreme Court, Sidi Bage in attendance. No reason was given for the absence of the other justices.

The Panels comprise of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunals, Governorship Election Petition Tribunals, and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals.

Justice Muhammad asked members of the panel to rise in defence of the judiciary from those bent on destroying it’s reputation.

This is his ( Tanko Muhammad) first official duty as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

It would be recalled that the acting CJN was sworn in on Friday by President Muhammadu Buhari after the suspension of the then CJN, Walter Onnoghen.
