Image result for Abuja farmersLocal farmers in Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja have expressed optimism that they will have a very good yield during this year’s farming season.

Many of them are beneficiaries of free fertilizers to boost their crop production. They received the farm inputs as part of the intervention programme of the senate, at Kuje, an Abuja suburb.

TVC News Sumner Sambo reports that as farmers in Abuja gear up to begin planting and cultivation of crops, they have been provided with bags of fertilizer to help boost their crop production.

Many of the peasant farmers in Abuja say the high cost of fertilizer had discouraged them from increasing their farm sizes which is why this intervention is coming at the right time.

Senate President Bukola Saraki was represented at the flag-off of the free distribution of the fertilizers to the local farmers.

He pledged the Senate’s commitment to supporting farmers across Nigeria through suitable agricultural laws and interventions.

The local farmers expressed delight at the gesture which they say will go a long way to boost massive food production in the federal capital.

They appealed to the senate to ensure that the farm inputs are not hijacked by politicians.
