The federal government said it has disbursed more than t $200bn (two hundred billion dollars) out of the three hundred and twenty two billion dollars recovered Abacha loot. The government also received commendation on its commitment to the Open Government Partnership which started three years ago.

Correspondent Joke Adisa reports that in 2016, Nigeria was part of the London Anti- Corruption summit, where it
signed to the Open Government Partnership and committed to the Global Forum on Asset Recovery a year later.

This civil society group with focus on anti corruption, is launching the outcome of its findings on the country’s level of compliance with the commitment made.

ANEEJ said having traversed 19 states of the country, Nigeria has largely implemented its commitment

Government corroborates the group’s findings and says it has so far impacted positively on the lives of the poor with the recovered Abacha loot.

Going forward, the report recommends that all steps be taken by the government to ensure that the disposition of confiscated proceeds of crime does not benefit persons involved in the commission of the offence.

It also advocates the inclusion of non government actors such as the civil society, non governmental organisations, community based groups and the private sector.
