Owners of shops demolished by the Kano State Government have appealed to the commissioner of police to launch a criminal investigation into the incident.
The association of the shop owners say the incident led to the loss of N260 billion and also caused loss of lives.
Since the inception of the current administration , the Kano State Government has demolished property worth billions of naira in what it calls a quest to restore the state’s original master plan.
Among the demolitions are more than 6, 000 shops at the famous Eid prayer ground in the city in May 2023.
The demolition had raised eyebrows, and set tongues wagging.
the shop owners sued the government and demanded N30 billion as damages.
But the parties resolved to settle the matter out of court, with the Kano government agreeing to pay 3 billion naira.
This press conference by the Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association is taking another dimension.
The traders are now seeking justice through a petition to the state commissioner of police to launch a criminal investigation against Governor Abba Yusuf, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdullahi Bichi and the Commissioner for Transport, Muhammad Diggol.
The traders confirmed receipt of N1 billion from the Kano state government as part payment of the agreed settlement.
But with this fresh petition, they hope to get justice.
