Suspected hoodlums have set parts of the Rivers State House of Assembly ablaze.
According to eyewitnesses the fire began around 9pm on Sunday.
Fire service personnel eventually arrived to put out the blaze but not before it had caused serious damage to the lawmakers chambers and adjoining offices.
Police officers have now cordoned off the area and taken over access control of the House of Assembly complex which is located opposite the state police headquarters.
