Despite millions of Naira that has been pumped into Nigeria’s power sector, there is little to show for it as Nigerians are yet to enjoy stable electricity supply, many have turned to the use of generators and alternative sources of energy like solar to keep their businesses and homes running.
There is a push for more Nigerians to embrace the use of renewable energy, which has been scientifically proven to be one of the safest means of electricity supply which is a source that does not pollute the atmosphere when used.
CEO of Green Force Energy, Dera Ejiofor explaining what alternative source of Energy is on TVCBreakfast said alternative sources of energy are renewable energy and there are presently about five renewable energy sources which include the hydro, thermal, wind, bio, and solar.
He noted that the one presently and readily available to us at the moment in mass production is the solar, which is where we’re focusing on for alternative energy.

He added that there are five various sources in terms of renewable energy, but right now we’re focusing on solar and wind.
Speaking about the renewable type of energy that Nigeria can adopt and work with, Mr Ejiofor said the solar source of energy presently works for us as the country presently have a good number of energy transition programs ongoing.
He added that there is more awareness and participation from both the renewable energy entrepreneurs.
The general public is also there in terms of solutions that have been provided in various areas in Nigeria.
“We are basically looking at the sun and the solar, the Solar takes energy from the sunrays, and the panels convert this into DC, which is able to go into our batteries, and at the same time, it’s been converted into AC to be able to power our homes.
“This is presently good for us in Africa because we have very good sunlight, and at the same time, we also have a lot of space to build solar farms, We also have a lot of forest and because we are in the sub-sahara, we have the rainforest here, so there’s time for us to still include the wind energy in terms of going from just using only solar.
Mr Ejiofor said solar is presently available to us in Nigeria and getting more affordable.
Speaking on the affordability of Solar, the CEO of green energy said it is a long term plan and decision and for it to be more affordable some form of intervention is needed from investors and government to enable Nigerians spread payment plan.
Apart from the challenge of affordability, Mr Ejiofor noted that support from global manufacturers in the renewable energy space in terms of creating renewable energies and solar academies in Nigeria, creating better technical support, better awareness creation and improving knowledge are some other challenges faced by his organisation.
He noted that though, there are bits of different trainings going on, global manufacturers and the federal government should be encouraged to key into this.
Mr. Ejiofor said the major issue is that people don’t understand the product and the workings of it, but understand that there are benefits to be derived
“Going green is also a form of support to save the planet.”
