Former INEC Commissioner charges Nigerians on Election

FORMER INEC COMMISSIONER CHARGES NIGERIANS ON ELECTION

Mr Mike Igini

The Former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mike Igini, has described the current situation where the candidacy of some political parties are still under litigation as shameful.

He urged Judges to be wary of rulings they give at this critical time especially Ex-Parte motions which gives the Election Management Body little or no wiggle room.

He added that the current spate of attacks on the Offices and facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission is very shameful and unfortunate.

He said it is a trend that has been on since the period preceding the 2007 Elections where a truck loaded with explosives was parked in front of the Commission’s Head of office in Abuja and its ICT building burnt.

He said since then nobody has been held responsible or to account for the attacks.

He urged Nigerians to go get their PVC’s as the 2023 Elections will be a date with destiny that will help erase years of failure.

He added that the assumptions by Politicians on bankable votes and all Other invidious means have been eradicated with the introduction of the BVAS and IREG.

He also cautioned against the use of voter suppression by any candidate adding that such a candidate will be doing him or herself a great disservice.

“its only with respect to various Court orders, they normally come from the Court and Section 84 sub section 14 is very clear with respect to that, it is for judges our colleagues in the bench to be mindful of the kind of orders people come to seek particularly the idea of people coming to seek Ex-Parte order without having to put even INEC on notice or all Other necessary parties on notice but i think as we wind down, one other thing i will want people to know with respect to some of the questions the feedback on this programme is that Yes, the attacks that are going on is not necessarily because, you know there are so many reasons why people do so many things and of course attacks have never been new to INEC, the greatest shock to me really as a person is that over the years this has been the trend, you remember in 2007 that a truckload loaded with explosives was stationed in front of INEC office in Abuja, you could also recall that in the preparation for the 2007 election in 2006, the ICT Building was also set ablaze in Abuja and nobody has been held responsible till date, that is the greatest disgrace to our country that non-legitimised actors can take on the state and all that, the presence of INEC offices in every Local Government shows”

” I wanted to give you the essential feature of elections and to my mind Politicians are going to suffer a Dinosaur experience in 2023 because of the new innovations and the position of the Act itself, because today, INEC is now having new things, accreditation is Bimodal, no more incident form, no more proxy voting, result collation is now a dual process, its both electronic and manual, the Polling unit is now where the elections are won and lost and today Yori, at the end of every election, a new register is produced in every polling Unit irrespective of whatever figure you have, so those who are making permutations on the basis of bankable votes of the past, you are wasting your time, Today any attempt to suppress voting in any part of Nigeria, if a candidate is from that area, you are doing yourself a great disservice, votes suppression cannot help anybody anymore, all the talk about hacking will amount to nothing because you are going to be given the hard copy, all your party agents will be given a hard copy, all parties set up situation rooms continue to do collation but you cannot make announcements, the shenanigans of registered voters versus accredited voters is all over”

” INEC now deal with what we call accredited Voters not numbers of registered voters that have been used for rigging elections which was responsible for inconclusive elections, we will no longer have that and that is why the entire 105 off season and Bye Election conducted by INEC using the BVAS and the IREG nobody has challenged the outcome except on the issue of whether someone is qualified or not qualified, all those who have the underaged figures that we have seen on the registered before will not be able to vote because they don’t even have their Biometrics contained in the system, also the self confidence by some people believing that with those invidious system they can do anything they are wasting their time, as we are going forward votes will not only count but will be taken into account, that is why their moral panic in the land that Democracy has come, Nigerian Power is back with the people, get your PVC, all these you are hearing about the last word is what i dropped from the bible, go and read from Mathew 24 it is very clear that towards the end time, which is not even the end time, people will think with what they are doing elections will not hold, there will be rumours, there will be all sorts but all that will not stop the 2023 elections from holding, Nigerians have a date with destiny in 2023 to deliver themselves, they will sing a new song”
