Army begins ‘Operation Still Water’ In Lagos, Ogun

 

The Nigerian Army has commenced an operation codenamed ‘Operation Still Waters’ in Lagos and Ogun states.

The exercise which began on the 12th of October will last till December 23, 2022.

The Nigerian Army’s 81 Division made the announcement, adding that the joint operation was intended to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, and other crimes in Lagos and Ogun states, which are its Areas of Responsibility (AOR).

The Spokesperson of the division, Major Olaniyi Osoba, solicited for the understanding and cooperation of law-abiding citizens in the two states and advised them not to panic.

The statement read, “In line with the Nigerian Army (NA) Training Directive for the year 2022, troops of 81 Division NA, including affiliated formations and units located within Lagos and Ogun states will be conducting Exercise Still Water from 12 October – 23 December 2022.

“The exercise will be conducted jointly with sister services, para-military and other security agencies. The Exercise which will dovetail into a real-time operation is aimed at enhancing troops’ level of professionalism and preparedness in curbing security challenges prevalent within areas of responsibility such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, ritual killings, and pipeline vandalism among others.

“The Exercise will involve the assessment of the effective application of the Nigerian Army Code of Conduct as well as strict adherence to Rules of Engagement ( ROE) in line with international best practices and Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities focused on the less privileged and schools. This would involve the movement of troops and military equipment within Lagos and Ogun States. Accordingly, the people of Lagos and Ogun States are advised not to panic during the period. The Division also wishes to solicit the understanding and cooperation of law-abiding citizens during the period of the exercise and beyond.

The exercise was flagged off by the General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA Major General Obinna Ajunwa on Wednesday October 12, 2022 at Foru Terminal Ikorodu Road, Ojota Lagos.

The Nigerian Army says its time criminals relocate from lagos and ogun state as they flag-off Exercise still water.

Free medical services were also made available to host communities as part of the exercise.
