The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique has warned that any group attempting to usurp the constitutional role of the military in securing the territory of the country would be dealt with decisively. Air Marshal Sadique gave the warning at the start of the 2018 edition of the Nigerian Air Force Combat Sports competition in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State.
Sifon Essien reports reports that the competition kicked off with more than 600 athletes drawn from 6 Commands and the Air Force headquarters.
For four days, the athletes will test their mettle for medals in several sports including football and Taekwondo.
The 4 by 400 Combat relay for the male and female categories opened the sporting competition.
Aside the competition, the Air Chief used the opportunity to warn against attempts to usurp the role of the military in securing the country.
For the Cross River state Governor represented by his Vice, the armed forces should remain steadfast to its calling.
For the athletes, the competition provides them the opportunity to showcase their fitness in the combat sports.
