A Don, Professor Godfrey Iyalomhe has called for mass mobilization against drug misuse prevalence in Nigeria universities and the country at large.
Iyalomhe stated this while delivering lecture on the theme, “Drug: misuse, resistance and consequences at the 9th annual conference of faculty of basic medical sciences of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state.
The guest speaker who described drug misuse as a global public health issue said its adverse consequences on users cannot be underestimated which include threat to health, mental, social, psychological and economic fabrics of the nation.
According to him, there is urgent need to strengthen protective factors against the menace by the international community, governments, religious groups, NGO and healthcare professionals to rise up to the challenge.
He said it is unfortunate that adolescents and young adults are the majority of those engaging in drug misuse especially cannabis, cocaine and alcohol.
