ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, on Tuesday highlighted the reasons why they will continue the ASUU. Speaking on the phone during the TVC Breakfast show, he said, ”This strike is for the betterment of the Nigerian educational system, we have been patching up for long, we are no longer patching or managing because the government had ignored the education system, while the political class send their wards to private universities and universities abroad leaving public universities in Nigeria to collapse.”
He continued, ”November last year we went on a strike because of the senate president then he outlined all the outstanding issues, the only addressed issue is the negotiation, but other outstanding issues like health allowances, pension , staff school ……the attention of the president must be drawn to all these. Issues outside Babalakin’s negotiation committee are what we discussing. We are saying that government did not continue the implementation of the existing issues from 2009 Federal government ASUU agreement. Government have abandoned implementation.”
”No teaching, examination or attendance of statutory meeting of any kind in any of ASUU’s branches till the government meets the union’s demands.”
