In Nigeria, the Herders-farmers clashes, banditry, flooding and climate change have combined to threaten food security.

Africa’s most populous nation was ranked 98th out of 107 countries on Hunger index in 2021.

This year, Nigeria ranked 103rd out of 121 countries, an indication of severe hunger in the land.

In the midst of these scary figures lies Nigerians’ level of awareness on the need to eat healthy.

This year’s World Food Day is another golden opportunity to rally awareness for food availability and healthy eating habits.

Experts described trans Fat foods as double trouble for heart health as it has been linked to various cardiovascular diseases.

To stem the challenges associated with unhealthy eating habits, a coalition urged the Nigerian government to gazette the fats and oil regulations

In line with the theme of this year’s celebration, which is ‘Leave No One Behind’, experts say as an individual, you are what you eat.

Arising from the severity of this year’s floods, experts fear prices of food will soar in months ahead.

To overcome the problems of flooding in Nigeria, these experts advocate that the government channels the flow of water through new dams.

World Food Day promotes food equity and healthy eating habits. Countries, including Nigeria, are expected to band together to confront looming food scarcity and, more importantly, to ensure healthy food for citizens.
