Wike commissions Benue GIS, Property owners get ultimatum

The Benue State Government has given a six month ultimatum to residential and commercial property owners in Benue State to get properly certified or face sanctions.

Governor Ortom handed down this directive in his address at the commissioning of the multi billion naira Benue Geographic Information Service, BENGIS land digitization project in Makurdi the state capital.

The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike officially inaugurates the 6 billion naira Benue Geographic information service centre to redefine land administration in Benue State.

The edifice is an embodiment of modern ways of reforming land administration with high standards of digital software to eliminate leakages and fast track registration of land titles.

The Benue Geographic information service centre is situated within its parent ministry of lands survey and solid minerals.

The Agency is now expected to extend service points to other major cities like Gboko,Otukpo and Adikpo.

The Benue State Government seizes the opportunity to give a six month ultimatum to residential and commercial property owners in Benue State to get properly certified or face sanctions.

Other stakeholders in the State believe this land digitization initiative will improve urban planning, infrastructural management and do away with land related conflicts.

The Benue Geographic Information System establishment is expected to help in making Land administration easier and seamless in the State and also enhance the revenue base of the State Government through the quick and easy receipt of revenue accruing to the state from Land Charges and Others.

The Benue State Geographic Information System is also expected to help in addressing the perennial issues of Land dispute and Communal clashes over land in the State which has in the past claimed hundreds of Lives.

It will also aid Town planning and development to ensure the prevention of Floods and Other Natural disasters.
