Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says international oil companies are to be blamed for the increase in cult activities in the state.
Wike, who was reacting to the gruesome killing of 16 people in the state on New Year Day by unknown gunmen, said oil companies in the state were awarding surveillance contracts to cultists who in turn use the money to buy sophisticated weapons to terrorise the communities.
The governor spoke on Friday when he received the visiting Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Danbazzau, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Danbazzau said he had been directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the state and assess its security situation because of the killing.
The governor also attacked politicians whom he said were using the killings to play politics and make false allegations against the state.
Governor Wike is the course of all the killings in Rivers state, He ask the boys to surround their guns and embrace Amnesty which those boys did happily and everywhere was calm,he even promise to help those boys to be useful with their lives but until now Governor Wike refuse to do something.
