Wife of kwara gov. moves to end drug abuse through campaigns

The Wife of Kwara State governor Olufolake Abdulrazaq says her office has embarked on various programmes to end drug abuse in the state, through sensitisation and awareness campaigns in major markets, motor parks and engagements with traditional and religious leaders.

The Kwara first lady who is also the founder of Ajike People Support Center, expressed these views when the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Mohammed Bashiru Ibrahim and his team paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Ilorin, the state capital.

Mrs Abdulrazaq who is the Chairperson Nigeria Governor Spouses’ Forum commended the agency in the state for all its activities in curbing drug abuse and other related crimes.

Speaking further on rehabilitation of drug users, Ambassador Abdulrazaq noted that her office and the Ajike People Support Center equipped and rehabilitated drug users with skills and tools in sewing, shoe making, baking and confectioneries, graphic designs, rewire among others to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in June 2023.

She commended the Command for its efforts to reduce drug abuse and promised to support it in all its activities.

In his remarks the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammed Bashiru Ibrahim commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the First Lady, Ambassador Abdulrazaq for supporting the agency in the State in the fight against drug abuse.

According to him, the command has encouraged the establishment of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) clubs in schools and organised competitions among Secondary schools in the state.

The agency boss also revealed plans by the agency to develop drug use policies in tertiary institutions and appreciated the First Lady for her support of the rehabilitation unit.

Present during the courtesy visit were the State Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Senior Sulaiman, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Abosede Buraimon, the state Commissioner for Social Development, Chief Oluwakemi Folashade Opeyemi and principal officers of NDLEA, Kwara State command.
