Wife of Katsina gov. intensifies campaign to end obstetric Fistula

Wife of Katsina state governor, Zulaihatu Dikko Radda has joined the world in creating more awareness to end obstetric fistula in this part of the world.

It is estimated that over 500,000 women in Nigeria are victims of this problem despite the World Health Organisation Declaration to end the issues of fistula by the Year 2030.

 

Obstetric Fistula is a hole between the birth Canal and the bladder or rectum, caused by prolonged labour without Access to timely medical intervention.

It leaves women and Girls leaking urine or feces or both and often lead to chronic medical problems such as depression, social isolation and poverty.

A patient, Fatima Ibrahim who is receiving care at the National fistula center babbar Ruga, narrates her ordeals and how she lost her baby to a prolonged labour that ruptured her bladder.

She said “This is the third time I am being admitted here for correction theater and it has been a very challenging moment in My life.

“Although I have received great support from My husband and other members of My family, most of us here are abandoned by their close relatives.

“We Thank the Federal and the state governments for the free care and counselling”

The governor’s wife spared time to interact and celebrate the International Day to end obstetric Fistula with the victims and presented gifts and words of hope to them.

Medical Professionals are concerned about the number of new cases still being recorded in the state.

The need to create more awareness on ways to prevent obstetric Fistula took the center stage at the event.
